A day hand stitching, collaging and embroidering a fabric brooch, bracelet or pendant...or perhaps make all three! We shall collage small pieces of vintage fabrics, use viv's screen printed designs as a focal point and embellish further with hand embroidery.
We can also experiment with mark making on fabric to make your own printed designs....to incorporate into your work. Bring along your own materials, imagery, old haberdashery, broken jewellery etc. if you wish, to make the work more personal. Viv will bring vintage materials, ephemera and screen printed imagery.
Materials list to bring :
Please bring basic sewing equipment i.e. embroidery scissors, fabric scissors, needle, sewing thread.
Embroidery floss. Buttons. Old haberdashery, laces, fabrics.
Broken jewellery etc. etc.
Includes: Lunch, cake, refreshments, materials and equipment.
My practice comes from a lifelong and deep need to make, draw, stitch and paint. I have worked specifically with vintage textiles, paper and haberdashery for 15 years, under the name of 'Hen's Teeth Art' by Viv Sliwka.
Inspired by folk art, dogs, hares, flowers and birds and my personally sourced fabrics etc.
I work full time in my purpose built garden studio in Staffordshire, UK.
I start my making process with drawings of ideas, which are translated into print, paint, free motion machine and hand embroidery. Combined with textured layering up of these time worn fabrics and my signature embroidered flowers. My completed pieces tell tiny tales and hopefully bring a smile.
