Patchwood Tenements - Saturday 2nd June 2018
Patchwood Tenements with Ali Ferguson The Purple Thread Shed
Saturday 2nd June 2018 10am - 4pm
Join Ali for a day of hand stitching with a difference creating a row of wooden ‘tenement’ houses from ‘patches’ of repurposed wood. Ali’s inspiration came from the tenements in Edinburgh ‘Old Toun’.
You’ll design your own row of tenements painted and then embellished with vintage papers, fabrics and other small treasures all hand stitched into place. Your houses will then all be stitched together to create your unique piece. You can include house numbers, street names and other personal details.
Before you can begin to stitch, tiny holes must be drilled into the wood. You’ll be surprised at how many holes need to be drilled for your beautifully simple designs!
Ali will bring a gorgeous selection of vintage materials from her studio – the Purple Thread Shed. However to make your piece even more personal you may wish to bring along some of your own small treasures to include.
You might wish to bring personal papers such as letters, postcards, maybe an envelope with your own address on it. Think about maps, stamps, scraps of special fabrics, buttons, small keys, pages from a favourite book (I buy old copies on Ebay to cut up – one book will do hundreds of projects), rusty washers and any other random bits and pieces.
I love everything I make to have a story behind it, so try and bring little bits that are used and worn rather than a selection of new papers and bought ‘charms’.
However you can, of course, turn up empty handed and there will be a fabulous selection of vintage materials provided.
There are a few messy bits so please bring an apron or at the very least don’t wear your Sunday Best!
