Pondlife Collage and Applique Picture Workshop with Rachel Sumner - Sunday 11th October 2020
Sunday 11th October 2020 10am - 4pm
We will work on a decorative hanging/picture along the theme of life in and around the pond. All the flora and fauna that surround and live in our ponds: frogs, dragonflies, fishes and lily-pads should give us plenty of inspiration to create a picture full of life and colour.
An imaginative use of fabrics and stitch, collage and appliqué will be some of the techniques employed. Along the way there will be plenty of tips and advice on how to achieve your ideas with templates available for those nervous about drawing and design.
Included: Materials*, equipment, healthy lunch, cake & refreshments!
Sewing Machines all provided by Couling Sewing Machines!
Reference material: if you have a particular scene in mind please bring an image along.
Materials are provided, but if you could it would be lovely if you could bring along a small scrap bag for us all to mix up and share on the day. Natural fibres are recommended in a not too heavy weight but a ‘mixed bag’ is fine. The tutor will be providing some relevant fabrics as well so don’t worry if you haven’t got all the colours you think you might need.
Do bring along your hand sewing kit if you wish to (if not we will have what you need!) : pins, needle, thread, and a few silks for any finishing touches.
Rachel Sumner has a BA Hons in Fine Art from Maidstone UCA, Kent. She studied Textiles as a subsidiary subject and this became a great influence on her work - using felt-making, dyeing and weaving to express her ideas. Rachel's inspiration comes from the Devon countryside where she lives. She exhibits in galleries across the UK and participates in North Devon's Open Studios and Art in Action in Oxfordshire. She also undertakes private commissions. Her creations have ended up as far afield as South Korea, USA and Australia.
