Porcelain Cake Stand Workshop with Katie Almond Saturday 16h March 2019
Saturday 16h March 2019 10am - 4pm
Join illustrator and ceramicist Kate Almond for this special one day workshop working with porcelain, surface treatments and the application of under glaze colours to create a two tier cake stand! Perfectly timed for Mothers Day or Easter gifting if you can bear to part with it!
Inspired by Katie's design boards, you will create a 2 tier cake stand with brass fittings. Learn about patterning and adding designs with coloured glazes and create your plate stand from scratch! Katie will take your work back to her studio for drying and firing and then it will be posted to you via 2nd Class Royal Mail.
Included: All materials, equipment, and your creations will be packaged up and posted back to you after drying and firing. We will keep you fuelled through out the day with sweet treats, hot drinks and a lovely lunch!
Please bring along an Apron!
About Katie Almond
Each piece of my work is a canvas for decoration and collage as I combine drawings with found, vintage ephemera. I am inspired by nostalgia, paper ephemera, vintage textiles and a love of drawing. I have always been fascinated by objects that have a history.
Nostalgic themes that I constantly revisit in my work are afternoon tea, the seaside, gardening, and my love of traditional blue and white pottery.
The porcelain pieces I create are unique, one-offs produced using a variety of slip casting and hand-building techniques. All incorporate my own drawings with found nostalgic imagery by using both hand painting and transfers, and many have the added opulence of gold luster.
Since setting up my studio in 2009 I have exhibited throughout the UK and my work has been featured in magazines, such as Period Living, Essential Living and Homes & Antiques.
